Bright lips, who doesn’t love them? I for
one am a HUGE fan of bold lips. It’s the perfect way to add zing to an
otherwise “meh” face of makeup, also known as “I can’t be bothered” or “I
needed to be out the door 10 minutes ago”. I was very pleased when I
discovered that Sportsgirl had released their very own range of matte lip
colours, in fact, their whole beauty range is on my wish list! But first things
first, let’s get on to the Pout About It! range.
We all know Sportsgirl as the iconic
Australian fashion brand but I had no idea they had been around for so long!
Sportsgirl was born in Melbourne in 1948 and grew to have 144 stores Australia
wide. As well as being on the front line of fashion, they support the Butterfly
Foundation which helps out people with eating disorders and negative body image
problems. I really like the Sportsgirl brand and while their clothing and
accessories are pretty damn cool, it’s almost always the beauty range that I go
for. Their beauty products are also cruelty-free, so big old bonus points for
them!
The
Product – Pout About It! Lip Colour ($9.95)
The Pout About It! range has been around
for a while and Sportsgirl just keeps adding new colours! I currently have (and
these names are just fabulous!) Mad About You (bright pink), Almost Famous
(cherry red) and Berrylicious (purple berry). They are very
vibrantly coloured and have a finish that isn’t too dry, they are meant to be
matte but I wouldn’t say they are a true matte lipstick. The colour lasts
pretty well (couple of hours if you aren’t eating/drinking) but these don’t
claim to have any longwearing superpowers. I also like the packaging, they have
a little section at the bottom where you can see the colour (I hate rummaging
through handfuls of identical black tubes, looking for the right colour!).

Using
the product
I’m sure you all know how to apply lipstick
but for clarity’s sake, these apply really well straight from the bullet but
I’m sure you could use a brush if you wanted. As I said before, they don’t have
a true matte finish but they aren’t super glossy either, maybe a semi-matte
finish is a good word? And some seem to have a more matte formula than others, Mad About You is quite matte, but Almost Famous and Berrylicious are less so. I find they do tend to feather a bit, so a lip liner is
a good idea. Side note: lip liner
always make me feel like a nana! Same goes for pantyhose… but I digress! Back
to the lipsticks, these are great and at $9.95 each, you really can’t go wrong!
Overall Score
The Good
Budget friendly
Awesome range of colours
Good finish (but not matte)
Last a good few hours
The Bad
Not extremely long wearing.
Not super matte (if you are
going by their sales pitch, you may be disappointed).
Has anyone else tried these yet? I
would dearly love to own the whole collection! Comments are always appreciated
or you can say hi at kaboom.cosmetics@gmail.com.
Stay beautiful!

Oh that Berrylicious lipstick looks really lovely! I think I might go buy that one! I've needed some new lipsticks. Plus its only 10 dollars, I have no excuse. :) xx
I bought an eyeshadow palette from Sportsgirl recently and I have to agree, the packaging is super pretty!
It's a beautiful shade and it's something a little different too. You definitely can't beat a $10 lipstick, especially in shades like these!
