I have always been a bit sceptical of micellar cleansing waters. How can something that is essentially bottled water be any good at removing makeup? I have used both the highly raved about Bioderma Crealine H20 Cleanser & its sister product, the Bioderma Sebium. I have also tried the Avene Micellar Lotion. I thought they were ok but really nothing special (and also quite pricey!). I happened to be browsing the aisles of Priceline with a $50 gift card clutched in my sweaty paw (thanks sis!) when I spied this GIGANTIC bottle of micellar water lurking by the counter. I had been looking for a new makeup removal product for a while (Ultrabland is great, especially in winter but quite messy & time consuming) so I was quite pleased to spy this and very happy with the results!
The Brand – Garnier
The only way you can possibly not have heard of Garnier is that you’ve made the life decision to be a hermit and live in a cave in a remote area of Scotland. If so, you are forgiven, for everyone else HOW CAN YOU NOW HAVE HEARD OF GARNIER!? Ahem….So Garnier is the child of parent company L’Oreal and have a HUGE range of hair and skin care products for pretty much every skin concern under the sun. I like that their products are easy to find and very affordable I absolutely adore that lovely fruity Garnier smell!
The Product – Micellar Cleansing Water ($11.99 for 400ml)
Micellar waters are basically made of electrically charged particles, which help break down dirt (and makeup). This particular bottle is absolutely huge, it says on the front that you should get 200 uses from it and I don’t doubt that. As a comparison, the Bioderma version retails for $22.99 and you only get 250ml so Garnier is ahead already. The packaging is very simple, just a clear bottle with a pink flip top which is actually able to dispense product without flooding your bathroom, thank you Garnier! It is scent free and both dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested and is suitable for all skin types.
Using the product
This couldn’t be easier to use and though I haven’t yet put it to the test, I feel like even drunk me would be able to take off her makeup using this. You simply pour it onto a cotton pad until it’s just about soaked then gently wipe off your makeup. I find that it usually takes 2 cotton pads to properly remove all my makeup, including eye makeup. There is no scrubbing involved, it’s just a gentle wipe and for eyes, I just hold the cotton pad over my eye for a few seconds before wiping off. This does a really good job with stubborn mascara! I also love that this doesn’t leave your skin feeling too tight or dry or even oily, it’s a pretty damn good product!
Good value for money.
Easy to use.
Excellent at removing makeup.
Can also be used as a toner.
….I’ve got nothing!
KaBOOM! Cosmetics gives the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water:
I think Garnier are onto a real winner here. There’s a definite market in Australia for more drugstore micellar cleansers. I think this is a really good product and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Have you hopped aboard the Micellar Water bandwagon yet?
